Telewest and the Communication Workers’ Union (CWU)

As you’ll be aware from the recent membership verification check process, Telewest has been holding exploratory talks with the CWU, about possible recognition of the union within Regional Networks Operations.

Both parties have established the proposed bargaining unit as the field based, non-supervisory Grades 4 and 5 Access Engineers, Last Drop Engineers and Copper Technicians, within the Regional Networks Operations function.

The next stage in the process is to carry out a postal ballot of all staff in the above groups, to ascertain whether they wish the CWU to carry out collective bargaining on their behalf.

Telewest remains committed to consulting directly with all employees affected by the recent merger announcement and will also continue other consultative dialogue with all staff directly or through the current TiME employee forum process.  However, Telewest also recognises the choice you have to determine whether a trade union should formally represent you for collective bargaining purposes, and on that basis the company encourages all eligible staff to vote when the postal ballot commences.
