Retired Members Section

At our Annual General Meeting held on the 9th of March Offices Bearers were elected as follows:

Treasurer                                 David Oattes

Vice Chairman                       Jim Dougan

Assist Secretary                     Kitty Boland

 

Unfortunately Jim Scanlon had to resign as Treasurer due to other commitments and the committee welcomed David Oattes on board as the new Treasurer.  The Chairman purposed a vote of thank to Jim for all his work in looking after the funds of the section.  We welcome two new members Bob Graham and Alistair Patrick who join old stalwarts Ernie Whitelaw and Jim Scanlon on the committee.

 

On behalf of the committee, Jim Dougan, Vice Chairman, is arranging a theatre outing during April.  Should anyone and their partner wish like to come, please could they let the committee know?   The Venue and date will have been decided by the time you receive this newsletter and will be advertised in due course.  In line with usual policy, the tickets price will be subsidised by the Committee and this will be agreed our first meeting.  This will be the committee meeting on 6th April.  Our section meeting is the next Thursday 13th of April.

 

Our Secretary Bob Mc Lean reported to the AGM that he is in close contact with our chairman Bob Caldow during his period of ill health.  It was reported that Bob is at present receiving treatment says he is in good spirits.  Bob hopes he will be well enough to attend the next meeting and likes to know that the Retired Members section is still continuing but he would like to see more members coming along.

 

The AGM was attended by Phil Hughes, Branch Chairman and Lawrie McMenamin Branch Secretary.  They reported to the committee and gave a very clear picture of the job we once knew and the many changes that are taking place.  They reported how the changes are affect them and how they cope commendably with them!  

 

The Committee heard a report from Charlie Love, our member on the RMAC (Retired Members Advisory Committee) on the recent RM Conference he attended.  There were two propositions going before the National CWU Conference this year.  These will be dealing in particular with matters affecting our elderly Members
