Royal Mail Pay - Final Offer rejected ballot on Royal Mail Future.   In a hostile act clearly designed to provoke the union, Royal Mail has decided to impose the pay offer rejected by CWU.

The imposition immediately follows the company's heavy-handed attempt to ban the union's consultative ballot on the future of the industry which includes focus on higher basic pay.

The pay negotiations are part of wider issues facing the future of Royal Mail and its workforce. Details of a recent efficiency saving deal are being withheld by the company, making the negotiations more difficult. The wording of any agreement will also need to address the future of the business and future pay structures in an increasingly competitive market.

Dave Ward, Deputy General Secretary, said: "2.9 per cent is not enough, but imposing the pay offer is premature and a blatantly hostile act by Royal Mail. We are refusing to be pulled onto the punch today, but with Royal Mail's prevailing attitude a confrontation seems inevitable in the near future. The union will be considering its response"
